Pizza, Coffee and Laundry!

Toscana

Ramenas Cafe

Wasserette

We were on a mission this week....find a a good pizza and a good latte! Luckily we found both!  Not far from our place we found Toscana.  Thin crust pizza  and a cold beer on a Friday night...great way to end the busy work week.

Ramenas Cafe has great cappuccino and lattes! Oh and did I mention the apple streudel? Yea..so much for low-carb eating here!

The "Wasserette" was a great place to have our clothes laundered. For 8 euros your clothes would be washed and folded and ready in 3 hours. Wendy LOVED this!

Wendy found a new car!

Wonder if this get more mpg than a Prius?
Worlds skinniest apartment?

Its been a fun week. Still getting used to cycling everywhere and of course dealing with the Holland weather!  It's been said "If you don't like the weather in Holland- wait 10 minutes"!  This is absolutely true!   Needless to say, after being caught in the rain a few times now, we always grab an umbrella before leaving the house.

Friday night, we met up with friends, Derek and Stani, for dinner at the Garlic Queen.  Interesting experience....everything is made with garlic even the ice cream!  Tic-Tac anyone?

Week three in Amsterdam started with Wendy arriving early Sunday morning. Her flight arrived at 8:30 a.m. so I left our place around 6:30 to be sure I had plenty of time to get through the craziness of Central Station.  (I walked to the train station and we took a cab home from the airport) however on a normal day this is what you have to deal with at the "Park-Ride". Just a little different than what we are used to in Atlanta!

Rowing on the Prinsengracht canal.

Rijksmuseum
Rijksmuseum is a Dutch National Museum located on the Museumplein. It has a large collection of paintings from the Dutch Golden Age. I am sure Wendy will spend hours here.

THE HEINEKEN EXPERIENCE
The Heineken Experience is located NEAR the Museumplein. It was the first Heineken Brewery built in 1867.  I spent many hours here!

You don't wake up to this very often at home. This man and his "music cart" were right outside my living room window.

Apartment #1 (will be moving in 2 weeks)

My co-worker, Derek, is in a band called  "The Geezers".  They played at Dan Murphy's Irish Pub in the Leidseplein-(the building the pub is located in was built in 1665!) Fun night and the music was awesome!

Cycling in Amsterdam is an experience to say the least.  Right of way goes to #1Pedestrians in a crosswalk-#2 Cyclists- #3 Automobiles...however the cyclists ignore ALL the rules- its a dog eat dog philosophy! Go fast and stay out of my way! Question: Is it safer to text and drive or text and bike?

Corner of Haarlemmerdijk and Prinsengracht.

Church on our street- Haarlemmerdijk.

First thing upon arriving in Amsterdam - get a new ride! This is my vehicle of choice for the next two months! It's not my carbon fiber Jamis, but it gets the job done- rain or shine!

My new parking spot.

View from my desk.

The scenery on my commute each morning- now where is the Starbucks?
